My social media journey

I use social media daily and different platforms and apps. I've been using it daily for years, I think I started it as young as 12 years old in Facebook. Most of my life I've been using social media. It was very new thing and my parents weren't in any social media at that point.  I'll say I was way too young or the time wasn't right as social media was so new consept. I did have lot of unwanted contacts and I didn't know what to do. Also I remember app called KIK. We used it with friends, problem was that anyone could contact you. So there were lot of old men trying to get in contact. I remember I was overwhelmed and confused of it. I will say I were way too young for social media. In instagram I got bullied as well as in Ask.fm site. It was rough. Nowadays I'm way more careful than in younger days. I keep my privacy and enjoy it. I still have social media and tons of apps. I read informative posts, I'm in a groups I'm interested and follow interest...

From Cartoons to Critical Thinking - My media life

Image
When I reflect on my earliest memories of interacting with media, I vaguely remember Tom and Jerry. Television was my first experience with media, and as a child, I was obsessed with cartoons. They not only catered to my childhood fantasies but also fueled my imagination and molded my perception of the world at that time. As a child, my media exposure wasn’t limited to just television. Unlike most children who dive into children's books, my first exposure to reading came from newspapers. Filled with black-and-white characters narrating grown-up problems. While I didn't understand everything, I still gravitated toward snippets of information. Over time, I understood a pattern in the mainstream narrative that seemingly worked to social engineer certain narratives.  The transition from printed media to digital media felt natural to me. I saw digital media as an extension of our three-dimensional reality. I tend to limit my digital presence to two platforms: WordPress and Twitter. ...

Digital Media

In modern day, the media has become a vital part of my life. My first media related stories as a child in Nepal were from watching local TV shows (Durdarshan) and newscasts. However, I sill remember the first time I watched  cartoons on the old television with my siblings. The shows like Tom and Jerry, Mickey Mouse, and Doraemon made my childhood enjoyable and imaginative. Those cartoons were my introduction to a world of creation, and they brought me a sense of joy that I will never forget. Despite the fact that digital media has taken over my life, I still value conventional media. To keep up with local news, I read Kantipur and The Himalayan Times newspaper. In the same way, I stay up to date on national events. The greater part of my media consumption has been taken over by digital media. I use Facebook or whatsapp to keep in contact with friends and family, I use Instagram to share pictures and follow famous people. In addition, I would say that YouTube has turned out to ...

My Media Diet

Image
My first venture into the world of Media was Facebook. One sunny afternoon, while my parents were about their busy day, I creeped into the computer room. With my sister watching the door for my parents (Dad especially, because he will always come checking), I carefully created an unrecognizable profile, which hinted I was slightly older, and more sophisticated than I was in real life, and then followed the days of growing my following list, awkward status and embarrassing photo updates, and constant fear of being caught. Fast forward to today, my media life has evolved significantly. I would now like to describe myself as a social media hermit, as I am more likely to consume media for entertainment purposes, learning, and of course getting reliable news from home. You'll most likely catch me binge-watching documentaries, or afro skits on YouTube. However, while my activities may never show up on my feeds on Facebook and Instagram, media has now become a lifeline for me, a...

My digital life: Exclusion or inclusion?

Image
Exclusion or inclusion? The first feeling I remember getting from social media was jealousy. My friends were on  Musical.ly, Instagram and Snapchat and I wasn't . I wouldn't say it was because my parents were against having social media at a young age , even though it did have an effect. The biggest reason was my own fear towards social media. I had heard all these horrible things that had happened to my friends on social media, from bullying to creepy men sending pictures and texts. Not taking in the fact that in school there were a lot of classes and interventions about social media. A lot of teachers warned us of hackers, catfish ers and predators on different platforms. I didn't understand why after all this my friends still chose to stay on these platforms and publish their videos and pictures. At the same time, I felt like I was being left out because I didn't know about the picture someone had posted, or I didn't understand why someone could get mad becaus...

It is so sweet to remember about past time when I used my first social media was Blog360. It look the same like this blogger platform. However, honestly I am not an extrover so I just used my blog for entertainment like seeing other people's post or looking for some news... Few years later, there is Facebook platform. At that time, I found out Facebook have good people connection. Especially that is very good for e-commerce. That was the reason why I started using Facebook. First purpose I want to use facebook to do e-commerce. However, in order to optimize usage efficiency, I had to post some personal espects such as my living style, my personal point of views... for my personal branding. Then, my facebook would not be bored if there were only posts about selling products.  However, after long time using facebook, I found out it is so complicated. There are a lot of messy information and selling efficiency is decrease. Then I use personal facebook less. I turned to professional fa...
