Awarded social worker about social media

A foundation of social services called Huoltaja-säätiö had their 70 years anniversary. They did a competition for making social services news, reports, journals, etc. seen. Criteria was that texts and other are supposed to be easy to follow and read. Easy communication to civil people about social services, success, research or client stories. Winner was Elina Pekkarinen, lapsiasiavaltuutettu (ombudsman for children).

The prize is for doing influencing job for adolescents and children. Information is reliable and justa regular person will understand it. The foundation mentioned they want to give her this award for longterm work to better the position in ife for adolescents and children in life. Pekkarinen is decribed to be given face to social services in the media. 

Ombudsman for children will be meeting children to hear their opinion and thoughts. Also they will be advisors for the ombudsman, it is something called Nuone. The instagram site of Elina Pekkarinen is great. There is stuff from her freetime as well as from work. A bit political but great, as the criteria of the award said. For social workers that is great account to follow, because you will get relaible information in a easy to understand nutshell. 

Elina has commented about the Utah law of social media for under 18 years old. (Restricted for under 18 years old.) She commented that it is not responsibility for government to educate the children. It is something that needs to be discussed at home, families situtations differs. In her opinion if social media use is bothering childrens sleep, then it is for example social services that needs to help. Total ban for all is not the solution. The risks and negative influencing should be on the shoulders of social media giants.  If they can't controll criminal activities and age limits, they are responsible. 


In my opinion this is acuurate and the risks in socials are high. Parents should communicate openly with their children about the rules in particular. I couldn't put all the information here what I did find but I'd recommend everyone to read about her writings and comments on different laws, it was an eye opener.

  The adoption of digital media among seniors has been increasing. For instance, in Finland, the use of digital media among people over 70 has been steadily increasing. In 2020, about 51% of Finns aged 75 to 89 used the internet. Among this age group, 19% engaged with social network services, and 30% used the internet several times a day. A growing trend of digital engagement among the elderly, although there is still room for improvement in bridging the digital divide.
