Social media at workplace

How is social media used in workplace?

I personally haven’t worked in anywhere that would have used social media as a professional tool. But I have noticed that more and more business uses social media to promote their company, products or services. I have also noticed that social media is used a lot as a communication tool between customers and employees as well as informative place for employees. I have noticed that apps like WhatsApp is sued as a platform where employees can talk about shifts or other important things with each other.

I personally am aware of a restaurant that has used Instagram to advertise their business or promote their events or campaigns. This was in a smaller town, and I believe that had a huge effect on why it worked so well. When the target audience is a smaller but closer together you can find a lot of ways to promote your social media. Because the platform on social media uses algorithm that targets people who might be interested in the same thing people view the same account a lot more. Companies in a smaller town can use it for their benefit by following people from the town and following the account themselves. This pushes people who are close to that organization to see it and create a lot more attention.

I think that in a bigger city marketing your restaurant in social media platform would be difficult to say at least. You would have to be a lot more out there and post consistently. That amount of work is intense and would take a whole workday from someone. It is important to mention that social media advertisement is as big of a job as any other in a workplace. A lot of people inside companies still believe that posting things on social media wouldn't be accounted as workhours but they are wrong. Taking pictures, thinking of captions and interacting with customers on these platforms takes a lot of effort and time. It’s important to take notice how much social media can benefit once business. It could be something vital to invest in.

A lot of different social media platforms are used as a communication tool. These platforms are for example WhatsApp, Facebook and Discord. I think it can be good way to get information fast and from the right people. But these platforms do create the issue with confidential subjects. I believe in businesses like a restaurant this issue is not as influential as in a place that involves social and healthcare customers. For discussions that involve talking about patients / customers health or private matters there must be a platform that maintains confidentiality.

In conclusion social media has become an essential tool for businesses, allowing them to advertise, communicate, and interact with customers effectively. Platforms like Instagram and Facebook allow real-time interaction with the audience that creates loyal customer base. Social media is a cheap way to market your business, but it also includes a lot of working hours. It’s also important to mention that these types of social media platforms cannot be used when talking about confidential issues.

  3. Love how you pointed out the confidentiality concern. Not all platforms are safe for sensitive info, and that really matters.
